March, march! Cadets from Penhold, Camrose, Airdrie and Ponoka participated in a Sports & Drill competition hosted by the Castor #572 Cadet Squadron. The competition took place on April 17-18, and was located at Castor. The Penhold squadron took gold in Drill and the Camrose squadron took gold in the Volleyball tournament. Castor Cadets hosted four squadrons to Sports and Drill by Annette Stonehouse The #572 Castor Cadets were host to four other squadrons April 17 - 18 for the Central Zone Sports and Drill. The visiting squadrons included #664 Camrose; #7 Penhold, #88 Airdrie and #65 Ponoka. Mary Ann Russell and Ken Miller catered the lunches for the weekend at the Castor Arena. The Drill Compeition was judged by RCMP Officer Paul Surette of the Coronation Detachment, Captain Phil Glavas, CIC officer (cadet instruction Dadre) of Red Deer and Dan McNeil, League Rep for #7 Penhold, of Red Deer. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel. Roger Thompson, the Assistant Central Zone Director, Alberta Provincial Committee came from Beaumont for the competition. These young men and women all in formation, wearing their Cadet uniforms made it very interesting for spectators to watch. They are judged on dress as well as the commands on marching, timing, and following orders. They marched three by five in unison twice around the arena doing their best to stay in time and precision, making turns and keeping step. Great respect was shown as all squads cheered to fellow Cadets. |
