Robert and Danielle Twa were blessed with a baby daughter born on Sunday, August 22. They named her Chloe Grace, a sister for Emma. Grandparents are Marj and Stewart Twa and Ken and Kathy Grover. The 50th anniversary of the Coronation Fair was a great success. Thanks to the Ag Society who work all year long to put on the fair. Talbot had many entries and our usual prize winners Betty Schmidt and Elmer Bridge did well again. Happy 80th birthday wishes to Amy Hewitt. Friends and family gathered on Sunday, August 22 at the Drop-In Center to help her celebrate. All of Amy’s children and all her grandchildren were in attendance. Among those who came from a distance were Len and Beryl Ward of Provost, Jo Farwell of Beiseker and Mary Jones and her son, Bradley from Ponoka. We send sympathy to the families on the passing on Maisie Hobbs. The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 20 at Czar hall. Julie Biddle of Australia came for her aunt’s (Maisie Hobbs) funeral and will visit the Crookes families for a while. Barb Widger and her daughter, Lana came from Manitoba for the funeral and will also visit the Crookes families for a while. Jane Vaughan of Wetaskiwin visited her sister, Lina Lang on the weekend. We send our sympathy to Marg Twa and the family on the passing of her son, Kevin. Get well wishes to Doris Sieger and Pearl Wakefield who are in the Coronation Hospital. Marilyn Gustavson of Sparwood, B.C. and Shelley Baker of Sedgewick came to see Pearl. The Twa families went to Villeneuve on August 21 to attend the wedding of Amanda, daughter of Beryl and Bill Doyle. Congratulations to Wayne and Holly Grob who were married on Saturday, August 28. An open house and dance was held in Coronation. Josie and Kaylea Twa had a holiday in Florida with Naomi and Kevin Henry and their girls. Carole and Marvin Tkach also went. Lana and Corey Twa were in Bonnyville on the weekend where Corey had practice for an upcoming baseball tournament. Bradley Jones, who has recently moved back to Alberta from Australia is visiting at Stoltz' for awhile. Les and Sherri Hewitt were in Camrose on Sunday attending the Bob Baker Memorial Barrel Racing Finals. A tribute was given to Bob who was a rodeo and barrel racing announcer. Bob was married to Shelly Wakefield. |

Rodney and Allisson Lang of Edmonton visited at Lang’s on the weekend. They were here to attend the Castor Homecoming and 100th Anniversary. Several Wakefield cousins held their annual gathering at the home of Shelley Baker in Sedgewick. April Gerow (Wakefield) of Cobourg, Ontario attended and Merle and Iris Lokken of Codette Saskatchewan, Dale Wakefield of Halkirk, Evelyn Hillmer of Magrath. Attending from here were Gordon and Joyce Wakefield, David and Terry Wakefield, Gary and Rose Waltham, Les and Sherri Hewitt, Bob and Jean Wakefield, and John Leuck. Lindsey Merchant of Vancouver, son of the late Robert and Erma Merchant, recently visited with Archie and Sheila Brown. He was travelling by motorcycle. Michael and Michele and girls spent a week in Whitefish, Montana. Talbot Homemakers helped serve lunch at Joyce Leuck’s funeral on Thursday, July 29. Evelyn Stoltz went over to Czar on Friday to watch her granddaughter, Sonia, swim. She is taking lessons there. Congratulations to Scott and Brittany Webber (Adair) who were married in Stettler on July 24. A large crowd attended the Slow Pitch Tournament at Burma Park on July 31-August 2. Shane and Alissa Craigie were in Calgary for three days where she played softball for Team Alberta. They competed against Ontario for the title of national champions and a trip to Washington for Worlds. They lost 13-14 and 17-14. Sara Craigie and Jalycia Huber were at camp for the week at Circle Square Ranch near Halkirk. Brandi Bedson and children were here for two weeks visiting and attending swimming lessons. |

Talbot Family Picnic was held on Wednesday, July 14 with a good turnout for the potluck supper followed by visiting and horseshoe. Greg and Mary Schroeder of Stettler attended. Gordon and Joyce Wakefield spent a couple of days in Medicine Hat visiting Gordon’s brother Bruce and Dee. Evelyn Stoltz and Sonja Smith attended the funeral of Rick Homan in Wainwright on Monday, July 12. They visited Phyllis Scott in Wainwright. Several from Talbot enjoyed a cruise to Alaska recently. Ron and Ann Hewitt and Donald and Diane Elliott along with friends from Coronation sailed from Seattle and went to a Mariners ball game on their return. Herman and Marcella also travelled to Alaska on a cruise. Their daughter, Helen and a friend of Olds accompanied them. Jim and Laurie Burchell and boys of Brooks and Darren and Colleen Brown of Pigeon Lake were here to help Candy celebrate her birthday on the weekend. There was a large group of family and friends at Talbot Hall on Friday night for Candy’s birthday party. Congratulations to the Coronation Midgets who won Gold on the weekend at Provincials. Also to Coronation 14 and Under who lost in the semifinals at Slave Lake. Good luck to Coronation 12 and Under who will play at Taber on the weekend. Everyone enjoyed watching Luke Creasy with a good performance at the Calgary Stampede. Evelyn, Dorothy Anne, Charlie, Judy and Sonia Stoltz attended the wedding of Shelly Jones and Stevphan Carre in Ponoka on Saturday, July17. Stevphan and Shelley live in Vancouver. Albert and June Stoltz of Chicago attended the wedding and visited with the Stoltz family for a few days. They had lunch with Sonja Smith in Coronation on Sunday. Herman and Marcella Schwenk came for supper and a visit at Evelyn’s. |

Cathy MacAdam, James and Kelly of Peace River visited her mom, Lina Lang, and other family last week. Maurice Copan flew home to Costa Rica on Thursday. He will return to work in Libya on Monday. Gerald Lang of Bawlf visited in the district and attended the funeral for Jackie Schmidt. Gordon and Joyce Wakefield were in Taber on the weekend to watch Coronation 12 and Under play ball in the Provincials. Their grandson, Graeme Crookes plays on the team. Clarence and Donna Golby also went to Taber. Their grandson Justin plays for the team and Brad Golby is the coach. Congratulations to the team and coaches on winning Silver. The community sends sympathy to the family of Joyce Leuck who passed away on Friday. Her funeral will be held on Thursday. Corey Twa and Trey Zimmer of Coronation 14 and Under team were invited to play with Round Hill in Provincial Tier One Playoffs. Congratulations to the boys for winning Gold. They will play in the Western Championship in Burnaby, B.C in August. Lana Twa attended a baby shower for baby Duncan in Lacombe on the weekend. Duncan is the son of Devan and Allison Krahn. A quilting retreat was held in Talbot Hall on the first of the week. Evelyn Stoltz took Sonia Stoltz to Czar on Sunday. Sonia will spend the week with her Gramma Marg and take swimming lessons. We got another heavy shower on Monday.

Mackenzie and Joel Burchell of Brooks spent a few days at Browns. Congratulations to Jordan Barnes who skipped his rink of Cliff Long, Clint Olsen and Brian Weeks to winning second in the first event in Youngstown’s Summer Bonspiel. There were 38 rinks participating. Evelyn Stoltz, Sonja Smith, Dorothy Ann Stoltz and Sonia Stoltz went to the Passion Play in Drumheller on Friday, July 9. Many attended Provincial playoffs on the weekend. The Coronation 11 and Under Girls played in Red Deer. Those from this area on the team were Kaylea Twa, Becka Schmidt and Erin Brown. Coronation 12 and Under Boys played in Heisler on Saturday and Sunday. Coronation 14 and Under Boys were in Fort Saskatchewan. Daniel Brown, Corey Twa and Braden McLean play with this team. Coronation Midgets played in Ardrossan on Saturday and on Sunday in Viking. Brandon Brown, Scott Fuglem and Bryce Gilbertson play for the Midgets. Michele Copan took George and Wilma Copan to Edmonton on July 6. Darren Brown of Pigeon Lake visited his parents, Archie and Sheila, on Friday, July 9. Marg Robinson of Edmonton is visiting her daughter Jill and Craig Brown and boys. On Monday we had an electric storm with very strong winds and over one inch of rain. Rain continued over night and on Tuesday. There was some hail but a lot of wind damage.A good crowd attended the Movie Night at Burma Park on Sunday, July 11. The movie was “Furry Vengeance” and was sponsored by Brownfield Community School Foundation. Stan and Shannon Schmidt and Lexie and Alise of West Point, Iowa came on July 4 to visit parents, Shorty and Maxine and other families. They returned home on July 12. Sympathy goes out to the family of Jackie Schmidt who passed away on July 12. The community sends sympathy to the family of Bob Clarkson who passed away on Monday, July 12. The Bargholz family reunion was held at Burma on the weekend. |
